The two-time F1 grand prix winner tested positive for coronavirus in January, suffering mild symptoms.

With the F1 season done and dusted, Leclerc has returned to his home in Monaco but tested positive for the virus on his way back from Abu Dhabi.

A statement on Ferrari’s social media, read: “Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow driver Charles Leclerc has tested positive for COVID-19. In accordance with protocols required by FIA and the team, Charles was tested on his return from Abu Dhabi.

“He is currently feeling fine, with mild symptoms and will self-isolate at home.”

Kimi Raikkonen and Nikita Mazepin both missed races in 2021 after testing positive for COVID-19, while Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll sat out of grands prix last season.

Leclerc finished 10th in the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP, dropping to seventh in the drivers’ championship behind Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz and McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Ferrari secured third in the constructors’ championship in 2021.
