Ferrari F1 junior Shwartzman to remain with Prema for 2021 F2 season
Robert Shwartzman and Prema will continue their partnership in 2021, with the Italian squad confirming that the Ferrari Formula 1 junior has been retained for his sophomore season.
The Russian has been with Prema since finishing third in the 2018 European F3 championship, before winning the FIA F3 championship with the team the following year.
Shwartzman stepped up to Prema’s FIA F2 squad alongside Mick Schumacher and led the championship standings in the early stages of the season, before his teammate went on to take the crown.
An impressive campaign saw him take fourth in the final F2 standings - claiming more wins than any other driver on the grid with a total of four victories.
"I am happy to race in Formula 2 with PREMA again in 2021,” said Shwarztman. “Our target as a team is obviously to win and make progress in terms of results from this season, working hard, improving the car but also enjoying another year by staying together and having fun.
“It will be our fourth year working together, and we are going to make the most out of it. I want to thank everybody who supports me for their dedication and commitment.”
Shwartzman will have a new teammate in 2021 in the shape of Formula 3 champion Oscar Piastri, with Schumacher earning graduation to F1 with American outfit Haas.
“We are delighted to extend our relationship with Robert into the 2021 season,” added team principal Rene Rosin. “We thoroughly enjoyed working with him so far and we are really proud of his continued progress.
“He truly has a rare talent, and we are looking forward to seeing him take another step next year. In 2020, he immediately proved he could run for wins, and we want to build on that immediacy to be consistent contenders in 2021.”
