Bruce Jouanny starred at the prestigious Elf Masters Formula 3 race at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium. Jouanny was delayed on the first lap by polesitter Mark Taylor getting it all wrong, Taylor ending up facing the wrong way and out on the spot. Carlin motorsports Anthony Davidson inherited the lead, with Jouanny down in fourth place.
Jouanny fought through to second place within a couple of laps and then set about bringing down the gap to leader Davidson, setting a string of fast laps. Sato, also having been delayed in the first lap incident fought through to third place, but finished the race "under investigation" after electing not to serve a stop and go penalty given to him for overtaking under the safety car.
Jouanny said: "This result is justification of all the hard work the we have done during the season, getting the car, team and myself to work together, it's great for all of us, next time we have to go one better and win".
"It is particularly gratifying when you consider how much Carlin have dominated the British championship, splitting them up serves notice that they can be beaten."
The results, with the top three finishers and the pole sitter all coming from the British championship, prove just how competitive British racing actually is, possibly any of the top ten of the British series could dominate any other Formula 3 championship.
Bruce now looks forward to the last round of the British championship, at Silverstone, in a weeks time, followed by the jewel in the crown in the shape of the annual trip to Macau and Korea. "The far eastern races can make a young drivers career, and I look forward to the challenge of competing in them, we have proved as a team that we are good on the 'big occasion'."
