Silverstone - based Promatecme Formula 3 Team is delighted to announce its line - up for the prestigious Macau Grand Prix, highlight of the Formula 3 season and the place where all the World's up and coming young drivers from various F3 championships race together.
The Team's regular driver Frenchman Bruce Jouanny has been planning to race around the narrow streets of Macau since the entry list was first announced in September.
However, frantic work behind the scenes has resulted in Jouanny being joined by 2001 double race winner and former Promatecme driver Andy Priaulx, returning to the Team for his final F3 event of the season. The experienced Priaulx, who was dicing for pole position at last year's Macau race before running out of fuel at a crucial moment, is returning to complete the job this year. He finished that race in 8th place, and nothing less that a win will do this time around.
Priaulx said: "I only wanted to go back to Macau to win this year, and racing with Promatecme gives me the chance to do just that. Following on from my experience last year, I plan to put 100% effort into winning this time. I think the circuit is absolutely awesome, and my confidence is at an all time high after the win at Silverstone, so here's hoping"
For Jouanny, this will be his first visit to the Chinese enclave, and former Portuguese colony near Hong Kong. "I've heard so much about Macau that I just can't wait to get out there and race", enthused Jouanny. "Everybody tells me it's the best circuit in the World, and I'm looking forward to finding out for myself. With Andy's experience and the Team's history in Macau, I'm sure I can get a good result".
Bruce Jouanny will also contest the Korean Superprix the following weekend, and plans to put his exceptional circuit learning skills to good use on both tracks. "Formula 3 has been a steep learning curve for me this season", he said, "but on most of the circuits we have been competitive very quickly, so racing at these two is going to be a real pleasure."
The international races have given Bruce Jouanny his best results this year, with 2nd place at Spa, and 3rd in qualifying at Zandvoort.
Team owner Chris Weller has been to Macau on 8 previous occasions, and having gained 6 podium finishes including 2 victories, is aiming for the top level again. Weller is absolutely delighted with his new signing. "We had been planning to go with just one car for Bruce," said Weller, "but when the opportunity came to run Andy, I jumped at it. I was convinced that he really wanted to race with us, which is really gratifying. The deal has only been finalised in the last few days, but we've worked together before, and I'm sure Andy will do a great job for us. He will give 100%, that's for sure. It will also be good for Bruce to have an experienced driver to learn from, and I can tell you he will give Andy a few surprises! The whole Team is really looking forward to a great race."
Joining Andy Priaulx at Promatecme for Macau will be former Jaguar F3 race engineer Alan Woodhead, who will bring a wealth of experience to the team, having worked with Mario Haberfeld, Luciano Burti and Andre Lotterer in recent years, With the combined experience of Woodhead and Weller at Macau, the driving talent of Priaulx and Jouanny, and the performance of the Mugen Honda engine in the previous international races this year, this must really be the Dream Team for Macau in 2001!
