Confirming recent speculation, Jouanny will lead the team in 2002, the Frenchman continuing with Promatecme for a second year. Bruce came into Formula 3 in 2001 after winning the Formula Palmer Audi Junior Championship in 2000. He rapidly adjusted to his new car and team, and by mid-season was regularly qualifying in the top six in a highly competitive field, often led by Formula 1 graduates Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson.
Jouanny was able to split the Carlin duo on a number of occasions, most notably in the Marlboro Masters at Zandvoort - where he qualified a fine second to Sato - and in the International non-championship Elf Masters at Spa - where he qualified fourth and finished second between Davidson and Sato. Once again, Swiss sports investment company UpturnOne will support the Frenchman.
"I'm really delighted to be able to drive again for Promatecme," Jouanny said, "I decided at the end of last season that if I did F3 again it would be with them, and thanks to the support from UpturnOne we can now go ahead. I'm aiming to win the championship this year - nothing less will do.
Jouanny's team-mate for 2002 will be the young Brazilian Judice, who steps up from the Scholarship Class where he scored six podium finishes, including a brilliant win in the rain at Knockhill, during 2001. Judice is former Brazilian Formula Ford champion (1999), and comes with the support of former F1 world champion Nelson Piquet, with whom he shared a sportscar drive in 2000.
"I'm very excited to start testing the new car and working with the team, because I know the great potential that they have," Judice said, "We are very happy with the agreement and I'm going to work very hard to have a great year with Promatecme."
"I'm absolutely delighted to have both Bruce and Ernani on board," team boss Chris Weller said, "We have waited for Bruce to get everything together because we are sure he will be a leading contender for the championship, and it is extremely gratifying that he and UpturnOne want to continue with us for a second season.
"Having watched Ernani's progress last season in the Scholarship class, I'm sure he will very soon be giving Bruce a hard time and keeping him honest, which is very important at this level of racing. I'm sure we can give them competitive cars and engines, and I hope that we can help them both achieve great results this season. I'm really looking forward to the first race."
