Asaro takes second win for Sweeney Racing.

Billy Asaro triumphed this afternoon in Round 6 of the British F3 Championship to claim his second victory of the year for Scholarship Class leaders Sweeney Racing.
Asaro, winner of Round 1 at Brands Hatch back in April, bounced back from the disappointment of retiring on lap one from Round 5 earlier in the day to win the Scholarship Class and finish 14th overall.
In addition to Asaro's success, team-mate Adam Carroll gave Sweeney Racing a moment to be proud of as he initially led the race outright after a fine start promoted the Scholarship Class leader into first as the pack headed into Copse.
Unfortunately for Carroll his moment of glory was short lived as a problem with the rear of the car resulted in an off at Stowe on the second lap ploughing the 19-year-old into the gravel and down the pecking order. He rejoined in 23rd and started an impressive comeback drive.
There were no such mistakes from Asaro though as he passed Gavin Smith for the lead of the Scholarship Class race on lap 4. The Canadian then held his lead from the pursuing Scholarship duo of Clivio Piccione and Stefan Hodgetts. With the gap between Asaro and Piccione closing from four seconds to just one by the end of the 15 lap race, the Canadian proved he can handle the pressure and maintain a challenge to his team-mate and class leader Adam Carroll.
Billy Asaro said: "To be honest I didn't even know I was leading the race until the second last lap. I was just focussing on the task in hand, learning the circuit. It was quite a fight initially with Gavin but I think he realised he couldn't keep me at bay and I eventually passed him. I'm pleased because I've salvaged something from the weekend. Everyone gets to go home with a smile!"
Carroll's recovery drive promoted him back up the field from 23rd to 17th by the chequered flag. He narrowly missed out on a podium finish but his win earlier in the day coupled with his points for fourth ensure the Formula Ford graduate heads to Knockhill next weekend for Rounds 7 and 8 comfortably in the lead of the Scholarship Class.
Carroll noted: "I'm still not too sure what caused my problems but the car kept on bottoming out. My first big moment was at Copse, the car snapped mid-corner and that allowed Robbie Kerr to pass me for the lead of the race. I was trying to stay with Robbie when the car snapped again as I was turning into Stowe. I was lucky to rejoin the race but I was able to fight back up to fourth in class and score a few more valuable points."
British F3 newcomers Sweeney Racing can now boast six Scholarship wins from six races with Billy Asaro victorious in Rounds 1 and 6, and Adam Carroll winning an impressive four in a row from Round 2 - 5.
Rounds 7 and 8 will take place at the home of Scottish motorsport, Knockhill, next weekend on Sunday 12th May. Due to the size of the current F3 grid and the nature of the Scottish track, the Championship and Scholarship classes will be separated to contest their own individual races.
Team Principal John Sweeney concluded: "Once again two races and two wins. I'm delighted for Billy as he didn't have a great time in qualifying and pleased with Adam's fourth place in the second race as it helps to keep the momentum going. He could have won outright but unfortunately he had a problem with the rear of the car. Both drivers have done a fantastic job to preserve Sweeney Racing's winning start to the season."
