Lynn secures Formula E seat with DS Virgin for season four

Alex Lynn will step up to a full-time seat with DS Virgin Racing in Formula E for season four, replacing Jose Maria Lopez in the all-electric series.

2014 GP3 champion Lynn joined DS Virgin in a reserve role at the beginning of the year, before making his race debut in New York City in place of Lopez, who was tied up with commitments in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Lynn became the second driver in Formula E history to score pole position for his debut race, and while he failed to finish, the Briton made a significant impact on the paddock.

DS Virgin confirmed on Tuesday that Lynn would be replacing Lopez for season four, partnering Sam Bird, who continues his long-running relationship with the team owned by Richard Branson.

“I am over the moon at being promoted to a full-time drive with the DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team," Lynn said.

"Having worked very closely with them since January this year, it has been a genuine pleasure to learn from such a fantastic group of high quality engineers and to integrate myself into their set-up.

"I have been made to feel very welcome throughout their organisation and I would specifically like to thank Alex Tai for not only giving me the chance to make my series debut in New York, but for subsequently promoting me to this full-time race seat.

"I am currently enjoying helping the team to further develop the car and intend to fully repay everyone’s faith in me on track next season."

The new Formula E season kicks off on December 2 in Hong Kong.
