Eriksson handed DS Virgin Formula E test chance

FIA European Formula 3 Championship runner-up and BMW factory driver Joel Eriksson will enjoy his first Formula E test in Marrakesh next Sunday, linking up with the DS Virgin Racing team.

Eriksson, 20, finished second behind Lando Norris in last year's F3 championship, securing himself a factory drive with BMW in DTM for the 2018 season.

The Swedish youngster will not turn his back on single-seaters immediately, though, having been named by DS Virgin as one of its two drivers for the Marrakesh Formula E rookie test on January 14.

"Formula E has a wealth of very talented drivers so it’s great to be experiencing this first hand and getting my first taste of electric racing," said Eriksson.

"DS Virgin Racing are a proven race-winning team so I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel."

DS Virgin team boss Alex Tai added: "We’re delighted to have Joel testing for us in the Formula E rookie test. DS Virgin Racing is passionate about nurturing new talent and Joel is one of the most up and coming drivers on the scene right now.

"We’re looking forward to seeing what he can do in our race-winning machinery."
