Three-time WTCC champion Lopez entered Formula E with DS Virgin Racing in 2016, claiming two podium finishes through his debut campaign, but was dropped by the team after just a single season to free up a seat for Alex Lynn.
Despite coming close to a seat with Techeetah for season four, Lopez was left on the sidelines, but will return in Marrakesh after Jani parted company with Dragon following just a single race weekend.
"This is an exciting opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to the challenge of Formula E in season four with Dragon," Lopez said.
"I have good experience from season three, and I’m confident that we can achieve strong results as the season progresses."
"Jose is a world champion racer who has consistently performed at the highest level in each formula in which he has competed," added team boss Jay Penske.
"I’m confident that his season three experience and collaboration with Jerome will be a winning formula for the Dragon organisation.”
Lopez will race alongside Jerome d'Ambrosio at Dragon for the remainder of the Formula E season.
