Panasonic Jaguar Racing has released a concept livery for its season five challenger - the I-TYPE 3 - that will contest the 2018/2019 FIA Formula E Championship.
The British manufacturer becomes the latest team to provide a glimpse of what its ‘Gen2’ car could look like, after the likes of Audi and Nissan also revealed concept liveries following the formal unveiling of Formula E’s new car in Geneva last month.
Season one champion Nelson Piquet Jr got behind the wheel of Jaguar’s new car in its first official test at Monteblanco last month, while Mitch Evans is set to get his first taste of driving the new all-electric machinery at the next test outing.
"This is a really exciting day for Panasonic Jaguar Racing as we take the next step on our electrification journey," team principal James Barclay said.
“We joined the championship so that we could take learnings from Formula E and directly transfer them from race to road to help shape future electric vehicles for Jaguar Land Rover.
“The concept livery of the Jaguar I-TYPE 3 is a progression from this season’s race car which we will unveil later this year.”
The Gen2 Formula E car, which incorporates the Halo cockpit protection device, has more power than its predecessor and will be capable of completing a full race distance on a single charge, removing the need for car swaps which have featured in every race since the series’ inception in 2014.
Jaguar heads into this weekend’s inaugural Rome E-Prix occupying fourth place in the teams’ championship, having scored points in every round so far in 2017/18 - including a first podium finish in Hong Kong.
