Robin Frijns has topped day two of pre-season testing for the 2019-2020 Formula E championship thanks to his fastest lap from the morning session of 1m 15.377s, as Envision Virgin Racing continues to dominate after Sam Bird led proceedings on the opening day.
With Frijns’s time unchallenged in the afternoon session, reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne was the highest-placed driver to better his lap time from this morning but could only reach 12th place on the combined times.
Nyck de Vries’s tough start to Formula E continued as he suffered a technical issue for Mercedes early into the afternoon session having crashed at the chicane during the opening day’s morning session.
In the pre-season race simulation run at Valencia, Mercedes enjoyed a better time of things with Stoffel Vandoorne winning the competitive simulation as only Porsche’s Andre Lotterer sat out the race.
After Bird topped the opening day, he suffered a late clash at the chicane to put a dampener on an impressive start to testing. The British driver left it late on Day 1 to shoot to the top of the timesheets in the closing minutes of the session, posting a 1m15.570s for Virgin at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo Circuit.
Maximilian Gunther led BMW teammate Alexander Sims for second place on Day 2 of testing with Oliver Rowland in fourth place for Nissan e.dams.
Nico Muller surged up to fifth place for GEOX Dragon ahead of Antonio Felix da Costa in the DS Techeetah to split the second GEOX Dragon of Brendon Hartley in seventh place.
Panasonic Jaguar Racing pair James Calado and Mitch Evans plus Audi’s Lucas di Grassi completed the top 10.
