Russian Time team principal Mazepa dies
The GP2 Series has announced that Russian Time team principal Igor Mazepa has died at the age of 40.
Mazepa entered Russian Time in to GP2 last year, taking over the iSport entry. The team fielded Sam Bird and Tom Dillmann and went on to win the teams' championship in its debut season, while Bird finished as runner-up in the drivers' championship.
Russian Time had entered a GP3 team for the coming season, while both GP2 and GP3 are set to support the inaugural Russian Grand Prix in Sochi later this year.
A statement from GP2 read: "It is with deep sadness that GP2 Series organisers confirm the untimely passing of Russian Time's Team Principal Igor Mazepa earlier this week.
"Mazepa who joined the GP2 paddock in 2013 led the Russian's squad to the crown in their first year. His passion, kindness and enthusiasm will be truly missed."
