Alonso thrown out of Silverstone F3000 event.
Fernando Alonso has been disqualified from the British GP F3000 support race, after his car failed post-qualifying scrutineering.
The Spaniard has taken sixth place on the provisional grid after the two wet practice sessions on Friday, but his Astromega-run car was found to contravene article 2.4 of the F3000 regulations in the mandatory post-session check.
The top engine mounting studs on his Lola were deemed to be 0.0065 inches above the manufacturing tolerance and, despite being a standard part, were enough to cost Alonso his place in the event.
