Brown is expected to leave McLaren's mySAP.com F3000 arm to make the move to Jordan, where he will slot easily into its technical team after several years away from the Formula One scene. He formerly engineered Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna at Williams, before moving over to McLaren in 1997. His role with the team's junior arm followed shortly afterwards, and landed the 1999 FIA title for Nick Heidfeld.
His departure, should it be officially confirmed, could now spell the end of the Woking team's F3000 involvement, despite winning at Hockenheim in 2000. Its demise was widely reported last winter, however, and it remains to be seen how strong Brown's control on the operation is, and whether it can survive without him.
