Brand gets its man.

Brand Motorsports has recruited top race engineer Gary Davies from champions Arden International to lead its assault on the 2003 FIA Formula 3000 International Championship.

Davies was a key member of this year's teams' championship winning outfit, and his decision to join Brand is seen as both a major surprise and a coup for the company that has taken over the former Red Bull Junior entry. The recruitment further demonstrates the determination of Brand Motorsports to take the title in its debut season, in which it is hoping to field no fewer than four cars in a similar fashion to that achieved by David Sears in recent seasons..

"I am delighted that we have secured the services of Gary Davies," commented team owner and principal Martin Kendrick, "We identified him as probably the leading engineer in F3000 and realised that, to achieve our goal of winning the championship next season, it was essential to recruit personnel of Gary's calibre into Brand Motorsports. He joins us on 1 December and will bring excellent racing and academic credentials to the team."

"I'm thrilled at the prospect of working for Brand Motorsports," Davies said, "The focus of the team is clear - to win the title - and it is that ambition and the professionalism of the organisation that swayed me. It is never easy to leave a team that has won the championship but, having seen the facilities at Brands racing HQ and understanding the goals of the company, this move represents a positive step forward. The potential is massive and, in Don Weston-Rap?r, I'll be working with one of the most respected engineers in the business."

The Brand team is headquartered in Swindon and built upon the successful EuroBOSS team of the same name. Weston-Raper leads the engineering strength and is happy to have landed a recruit of Davies' quality.

"Gary joins us as chief race engineer, responsible for the set up of the cars and working with the drivers to achieve optimum performance," he confirmed, "Last year, he was engineer to Bjorn Wirdheim, taking the Swede from a midfield position to the front of the grid. He has a proven record of achieving pole and podium positions and his experience will be invaluable as we prepare for the coming season."

The FIA F3000 season kicks off at Imola next April.
