Verdonck to miss finale.

Nico Verdonck has confirmed that he will be forced to miss the last round of the FIA F3000 Championship, due for Monza next weekend, after running out of money.

The Belgian teenager has improved steadily since graduating from the national Formula Renault series with Team Astromega for 2004, but has now been let down by a sponsor and won't be able to notch a tenth race on his CV.

The Belgian teenager has improved steadily since graduating from the national Formula Renault series with Team Astromega for 2004, but has now been let down by a sponsor and won't be able to notch a tenth race on his CV.

A statement issued by Verdonck's management claimed that the driver had 'been let down by one of his main contracted sponsors and, at such short notice, had not been able to find sufficient funds to allow [him] to do the final race."

The announcement went on to report that Verdonck and those behind him would concentrate on finding reliable partners with a view to remaining in the new GP2 series

Astromega, meanwhile, will have to find a partner for Olivier Tielemans, who currently occupies the second car on a race-by-race basis.
