Despite having only recently lifted the 2004 Superfund Euro 3000 title with Nicky Pastorelli, the Draco Junior Team has already turned its attentions to next season, testing Jonny Reid and Olivier Tielemans at Vairano.
Both have experience in F3000, with Reid taking a race win and podium finishes with John Village Automotive in the Euro 3000 series, and Tielemans making a faltering start to his FIA F3000 career with four outings with Astromega. Neither was familiar with Vairano, however, providing a level playing field on which Draco team owner Adriano Morini could judge their potential.
"I have to say that Jonny Reid put in a good performance," Morini revealed, "He still has to mature technically, but I think, after a suitable training, he'll obtain good results. As for Olivier Tielemans, he's eager to learn and improves lap after lap. In general, both impressed me."
The team insisted that the pair were only the first of several drivers that it plans to test over the winter, before deciding its line-up in either the new GP2 or Formula Superfund series for 2005.
"We are valuing the test results, but we can't say nothing else, as we have to wait for the other planned tests," Financial director Nadia Morini explained, "At the moment, we are satisfied. We are working hard, organising new tests, sorting our presence at the Bologna Motor Show and for the 2005 season."
