Hamilton: I can't wait to watch Becketts pass!

Lewis Hamilton again showed himself to be a 'racer' of the highest quality at Silverstone, particularly in coming from eighth on the sprint race grid to claim his second GP2 Series win of the weekend, but he also revealed himself to be a fan of racing.

Lewis Hamilton again showed himself to be a 'racer' of the highest quality at Silverstone, particularly in coming from eighth on the sprint race grid to claim his second GP2 Series win of the weekend, but he also revealed himself to be a fan of racing.

Asked about the moment where he jumped from fourth to second in the race, the ART Grand Prix driver admitted that going three-abreast with Clivio Piccione and Nelson Piquet Jr into one of the fastest sections of the circuit certainly got his attention.

"As I came into the first corner, my plan was to get as close to Piquet as possible, but he and Clivio were battling big time, and I thought they were going to come together, to crash, go wide or off - but it wasn't like that," he said of the run through Copse and Maggotts into Becketts.

"They both got through the corner, but they were still together, leaning on each other, and I got the best exit out of turn one and slipstreamed Piquet, moved over and slipstreamed Clivio. I was very fortunate that I went through the first and second corner with [Adam] Carroll yesterday, so I knew that you can overtake in turn three. I knew that, if I played my cards right, I could do it, so I just got in there and braked later and then kept the power on. I did think we were going touch, but Piquet shot off one way, Clivio moved over to avoid me, and then I just headed on towards Porteiro.

"It was amazing to drive, such a satisfying lap - you can't explain the feeling you have at that point when you are so close to someone at 170mph. I'm really looking forward to watching that one!"

Despite the large crowd willing him on, Hamilton revealed that he was so 'in the zone' that he was unaware of the cheering that erupted to accompany the move.

"I didn't hear it, it all went silent at that point because we were so close," he said, "I don't know if my body was preparing for something - you know when, if you're going to crash, your body gets ready to protect itself? I felt my body, and the adrenalin, all building up ready for something, and when I came out, it all relaxed, kind of saying 'phew, thank God for that'!"

Missing a clean sweep by just two points after Carroll pipped him to pole, Hamilton nevertheless enters the mid-season break with a 22-point advantage over closest rival Piquet.
