GP2 Spain 2013: Feature race results
Robin Frijns added 'GP2 race winner' to his already impressive CV, after claiming victory in the Saturday feature race at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona for Hilmer Motorsport.
Frijns was helped by three leading contenders - Racing Engineering's Fabio Leimer, DAMS' Marcus Ericsson and ART's James Calado - all ending up out of contention early in the race after collisions. Frijns then converted an early pit stop into a controlled drive to the finish line ahead of a storming Felipe Nasr who had made short work of Jolyon Palmer, Tom Dillmann and Stefano Coletti in the closing laps.
Frijn's Hilmer team mate Jon Lancaster proved the team's strength in Spain by picking up third place in his d?but with the team after Jolyon Palmer was penalised for forcing Russian Time's Sam Bird off track in the closing laps.
Bird himself was involved in the incident that sidelined Ericsson and will have a five-place grid penalty for Sunday's sprint race. Bird's team mate Tom Dillmann was involved in a late race spat with DAMS' St?phane Richelmi having already survived a scary incident which saw Nathana?l Berthon's Trident launched over the back of Sergio Canamasas' Caterham on lap 4; Berthon gets a ten-place sprint grid penalty for causing that accident.
