Coors Carb Day will feature a full day of incredible entertainment for Indianapolis 500 fans, with final practice for the race's elite 33-car field, the Coors Indy 500 Pit-Stop Challenge and a free concert by the hit rock music group Collective Soul.

The final, two-hour practice for the Indianapolis 500 starting field gets underway at 1100 EST on 24 May, and the Coors Carb Day session is the most crucial practice of the entire month for the drivers and teams competing in the 85th running of the 'Greatest Spectacle in Racing' because it's the final opportunity to find the most competitive set-up for the gruelling 500-mile race.

At 1330, twelve Indy Racing Northern Light Series teams will compete for the $42,500 winner's share of the $80,000 Coors Indy 500 Pit-Stop Challenge purse. A donation of $5,000 will be made to the American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis in the name of the winning team.

In each round of the Challenge, teams will change all four tyres on the car while making a simulated fuel hose connection to the fuel tank for a minimum of five seconds. The fastest team in each pairing will advance until the top two teams meet in the final round. Pairings will be determined by a blind draw.

The Pennzoil Panther Racing team won the Coors Indy 500 Pit-Stop Challenge in 2000, its second win in the Challenge in the team's three-year history.

Popular Atlantic Records recording artist Collective Soul will play the Coors Concert at 1530 in the Pagoda Plaza, located directly behind the Speedway's 13-story Pagoda control tower.

The group remains one of the top album rock bands in the world seven years after its debut album, Hints, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid, went multi-platinum on the strength of the No. 1 single Shine.

The band's three albums after Hints produced other popular number one singles such as Gel, The World I Know, Precious Declaration and Heavy, which sat at the top of the charts for an incredible 14 weeks in 1998. All told, Collective Soul has sold more than seven million albums and scored eight number one singles.

In addition to its hits, the band will play new material from its latest album, Blender, which was released in October 2000. The album includes the singles Why Pt 2 and Perfect Day, a duet that Collective Soul singer/songwriter Ed Roland recorded with legendary musician Elton John.

Tickets for Coors Carburetion Day are $10 at the gate, with children age five and younger admitted free. All activities for the day are included in the ticket price, including the concert. The Speedway's gates open to the public at 0800 and close at 1800.
