Speedway to give refunds for CART cancellation.
Texas Motor Speedway has announced that it would begin issuing refunds by mail to all ticket holders who purchased tickets for last Sunday's postponed CART FedEx Championship Series event.
The Fort Worth circuit was gearing up for its first CART event when concerns over the health of drivers, particularly with the excessive G-force levels being recorded on the high banking at TMS, led to the race being cancelled on Sunday morning.
"We hope to resolve multiple issues with CART in the days ahead," said general manager Eddie Gossage, "There has been no final determination as to whether the event has been postponed or cancelled, but the fans deserve an immediate refund.
"Texas Motor Speedway will immediately begin offering full refunds to fans by mail. They have been patient, but have rightfully expected an answer."
The circuit has pointed out, however, that refunds will not be available in person at the speedway ticket office.
PSL and season ticket holders will be contacted by the speedway by post, stating the account of the ticket holder of record has been credited for their CART tickets. PSL and season ticket holders may then choose to have their credit issued in the form of a refund or as a credit for future speedway events, including their 2002 season ticket package. It is not necessary for claimants to return their tickets.
Any individual tickets - not season tickets - purchased through the Texas Motor Speedway Ticket Office must be returned via mail by 30 June 2001 to: Texas Motor Speedway, PO Box 901092, Fort Worth, TX, 76101-2092. Ticket holders will receive credit back to their credit card or a cheque for cash transactions. Due to the volume of tickets sold - and refund claims expected - fans should allow 30 days for processing.
Fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster by telephone or over the internet will automatically have their credit cards credited for the cost of the tickets and per ticket charge. Those who purchased tickets over the counter at Ticketmaster outlets, including Foley's, Fiesta and Kroger, should return to those locations with their tickets for a refund that will be given in the same manner as the tickets were paid for.
The deadline for all ticket refunds is 30 June 2001.
