The MGD race car features a familiar black paint scheme that made the Miller Genuine Draft racing cars of the early 1990s extremely popular with fans and won several awards for paint design. Miller Genuine Draft-backed cars won the 1992 CART championship with driver Bobby Rahal, as well as 25 stock car events with driver Rusty Wallace. A MGD-sponsored dragster, driven by Larry Dixon, also won the prestigious U.S. Nationals drag racing title in 1995.
"We, at Team Rahal, are very excited to have Miller Genuine Draft back in motor sports and especially with our organization," said Rahal, the three-time CART series champion and 1986 Indy 500 winner. "The MGD colours will always have a soft spot in my heart after winning the 1992 CART championship for the brand. MGD was instrumental in my ownership of a team in CART and the formation of Team Rahal. Having MGD back in racing is a treat for me personally as well as Max and all of our CART operation."
With his recent separation from Jaguar Formula 1 racing complete and with the CART title fight heating up, Bobby Rahal, three time CART champion and Team Rahal owner, is turning his full attention to helping his team capture the 2001 CART championship."
"I am really looking forward to re-focusing on Team Rahal and Kenny [Brack] as he tries to win the CART championship," said Rahal. "I've got a great thing here and it's refreshing to come back to CART because the ability to compete is so easy compared to F-1 and all the politics."
