The Bossier City, Louisiana casino, which has sponsored the June Indy Racing League event at Texas Motor Speedway since 2000, will officially change its name to Boomtown Casino & Hotel on July 1, 2002. The June 8, 2002 IRL event will now officially be known as the Boomtown 500.

"The Boomtown 500 has become one of the signature events of the Indy Racing League," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "As 'America's Original Nighttime Indy Car Race,' the event is a highlight. It has prospered under the name Casino Magic 500 but will now boom as the Boomtown 500."

"The change in name is reflective of the changes we have made and are continuing to make to our property," said Casino Magic Vice President & General Manager, Dale Darrough. "We are themeing the new Boomtown in the style of old Mexico, complete with building facades, authentic Tex-Mex furnishings and a fresh new approach to providing the best service possible to our guests.

"We want racing fans to know they will have a brand new casino facility awaiting their arrival. With our new restaurants, a fresh new-look inside the casino and a staff of very friendly employees, we know the new Boomtown will provide an exciting entertainment experience for all of our guests. Changing the name of the June 8 IRL race to reflect the pending change of our property's name is a great way to get our message out."

Although the name change to Boomtown occurs on July 1, 2002, the casino is waiting until July 14, 2002 to throw a Grand-Reopening Extravaganza, featuring outdoor name-act entertainment, food and more.
