This team has taken on a lot, says Andretti.

Michael Andretti and the entire Team Green/Motorola group have had a testing six weeks on the CART/IRL tour with the transition from Reynard to Lola chassis adding extra work to their already hectic, emotional and at-times agonising early-season. However Andretti feels that despite everything, they are still on target.

Team Motorola and driver Michael Andretti are gearing up for their second of three back-to-back CART FedEx Championship races. "I have to admit this is a tough stretch for everyone on Team Motorola," remarked Andretti. "It would be nice to have a victory and gain some momentum."

Team Motorola and Andretti just came from The Milwaukee Mile where they started 13th and finished seventh, earning six championship points in the process.

"We worked really hard in Milwaukee to end up finishing seventh," said General Manager Kim Green. "The most important thing is that we gained valuable championship points which we need to continue to do throughout the season."

Andretti had a few misfortunes in Milwaukee but the team has not lost sight of their goals.

"This team has taken on an awful lot over the past two months with the Indy 500 and the switch to the Lola chassis," said Andretti. "I can't say enough about the effort that has been put forth and I think we'll still have some small issues with our new chassis but overall we haven't lost any ground and I'm looking forward to a good weekend in Laguna."

Andretti has always enjoyed racing on the 2.4-mile natural terrain road course and is eager to get back to Laguna. "The thing that is so wonderful about CART competition is the variety of our races," explained Andretti. "Laguna is always a great event and I feel confident that we'll have a good race car on the road course, just like we have had a good race car on the ovals."

Andretti has finished first in Laguna on two occasions, 1991 and 1992, but started 16th and finished 14th last year.

"Laguna can be a very tough course to pass on," Andretti stated. "It's very important on this track to maximize any passing opportunities and really have a car that is working good in order to move up the field."

Team Motorola would like to add a road course victory to their street course victory earned earlier this season at the Long Beach Grand Prix in April. They are currently in sixth place in the championship race with 28 points. Michel Jourdain Jr moved into first place in the championship race this weekend with 42 points while Michael's technical partners Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy round out the top three with Dario in second place with 35 points and Paul in third place with 32 points.

Andretti is in his19th Champ Car season and currently leads all active Champ Car drivers in number of wins at 42, number of poles at 32, number of starts with 294 and laps led with 6,563.
