At a hot and steamy Kansas Speedway on Saturday, Scheckter reminded everyone just how potent the Infiniti engine is on 1.5-mile ovals as he set a best time of 28.0381-seconds (218.547mph) on his second of two qualifying laps en-route to his second career IRL pole.
Infiniti powered drivers have now led all four practice and qualifying sessions thus far at the brand new venue with Scheckter's Red Bull teammate and boss Eddie Cheever heading Saturday morning's third practice session.
Cheever will start Sunday's race from the inside of the second row of the grid after Richmond winner Sam Hornish Jr snuck his way onto the outside of the front row with a best time of 25.1305-seconds (217.743mph).
Laurent Redon, who was fastest of all in Friday practice, could only manage fourth place in qualifying but is still looking like a good dark horse for victory on Sunday.
Buddy Lazier will start fifth with Airton Dare sixth and current points leader Helio Castroneves seventh. Castroneves will be looking to make some early progress in Sunday's race as his teammate and nearest Championship challenger Gil de Ferran completely missed his qualifying set-up and could only manage 21st fastest time in the 23-car field.
