Road America - On the right track.

Dario Franchitti holds the rights to the track qualifying mark at Road America with a time of 1:39.866 (145.924 mph) in 2000. In addition to his track record, Franchitti also scored a win on the monstrous 4.048-mile permanent road course in the 1998 event.

Like a number of circuits on the CART schedule, Michael Andretti has proven over the years that he has the skills to dominate at Road America. His two pole positions at Road America (1998-99) compliment his three race wins in 1990-91 and '96. Andretti is coming off his 301st career Champ Car start at Mid-Ohio where he scored his third podium of the season (Long Beach and Cleveland).

Two-time Road America champion Paul Tracy amassed three straight poles here from 1992-94, with a win coming in 1993. Most recently Tracy won the 2000 event after outlasting Adrian Fernandez and Kenny Brack.

Bruno Junqueira and Christian Fittipaldi both return to the track that delivered their first Champ Car victories. Junqueira is the defending race champion after coming from 10th on the grid to win in his rookie season of 2001. Fittipaldi tasted victory champagne in 1999 after starting fourth.

Ford-Cosworth was the powerplant of choice at Mid-Ohio last weekend, giving Patrick Carpentier two championship points for pacing both provisional and final qualifying sessions en route to victory for the second time in the past three races. Toyota-powered drivers have won six of 11 CART FedEx Championship Series events contested this season (Cristiano da Matta, 5 and Bruno Junqueira, 1). Honda has three wins with (Michael Andretti, 1, Paul Tracy, 1 and Dario Franchitti, 1) followed by Ford-Cosworth thanks to Carpentier's two Ohio triumphs. The hunt for the Manufacturer's Championship has Toyota (187) leading over Honda (169) and Ford-Cosworth (148).

In the CART FedEx Championship Series' 20-year history at the Elkhart Lake circuit, the Toyota/Lola combination comes in as the defending race champion, supplying the set-up that earned Bruno Junqueira the victory in last year's event. Honda/Reynard has been the weapon of choice in recent years, earning victories in three of the last five races contested at Road America. Ford-Cosworth, when paired with Lola, has three total wins in Road America competition, and two when paired with the Reynard chassis.

Four entries will utilize the Reynard this weekend including Carpentier, Alex Tagliani, Tora Takagi and Oriol Servia (#20 Visteon Toyota/Reynard/Bridgestone). Overall, Ford (9) leads Honda (3) and Toyota (1) in total wins at Road America, with Lola (8) leading Reynard (5) in the chassis battle.

Lola has won 8 of 11 CART FedEx Championship Series events this season, including wins by Cristiano da Matta (5), Bruno Junqueira, Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti. Reynard took trips to victory circle in the remaining three races this season in the hands of Patrick Carpentier (2) and Michael Andretti. Lola leads 225 to 147 in the Constructor's Championship.
