Testing times for IPS rivals.

Indy Racing Infiniti Pro Series champion A.J. Foyt IV and Indy Racing League standout Airton Dare completed a total of 114 laps during Indy Racing League testing on Wednesday at Phoenix International Raceway.

2000 IRL Rookie of the Year Dare, 24, completed 64 laps of the 1-mile desert oval in the No. 11 A.J. Foyt Racing/Harrah's Dallara/Chevrolet/ Firestone with a best time of 21.55 seconds.

"It was a good test for me," said Dare, who also serves as driver coach for young Foyt. "I learned a lot about the lines on this track and improved my line through Turns 1 and 2. Also, we were able to test some different shock packages, which worked out pretty good. Even though the track conditions were not the best - it was pretty windy and dirty - we accomplished what we came for."

During his second day of testing at Phoenix, Foyt completed 50 laps with a best time of 21.20 seconds.

"Today was very good for both Airton and me," said Foyt, 18, who earned four wins and four pole positions en route to the inaugural Infiniti Pro Series title. "I learned a lot about entering Turns 1 and 2 and also Turn 3. I still have a lot to learn, but this was a good start. I felt real comfortable in the car, and hopefully I'll be racing here soon."

While Foyt was on track in Phoenix, fellow Infiniti Pro Series competitors Aaron Fike and Dave Steele tested a Hemelgarn Racing IRL car at Kentucky Speedway.

Each driver completed over 70 laps of the 1.5-mile oval with speeds in the 214-mph range.

"It was a great test," said Fike, who won the Infiniti Pro Series event on Sept. 8 at Chicagoland Speedway. "I immediately felt comfortable in the car and was flat out within a few laps. I only wish I would have been in the car for more laps."

Steele, who drove the No. 43 Bowes Seal Fast Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone to an eighth-place finish in the Michigan 100 Infiniti Pro Series event July 28, was awarded the IRL test after winning the Hemelgarn-sponsored USAC Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series event July 12 at Toledo Speedway.
