Dixon now faces a race against time in order to be fit in time for Indy 500 Rookie Orientation practice on April 21st. Although Dixon's participation in that session is currently doubtful, he expects to be fit in time for the May 25th running of the 87th Indianapolis 500. Should Dixon be forced to miss the original ROP date he would have to take the test before taking to the track for official practice.
"It's a little sore, but so is my whole body," said Dixon of his injured wrist. "But it could have been a lot worse. I'm looking forward to getting back on the track when the month of May gets underway. "
Dixon led 45 laps in first ever-overseas IRL IndyCar race at the 1.5-mile Twin Ring Motegi and has led at least one lap in all 3 events so far this season. He currently stands 2nd in laps led for the year.
The 22-year old Australian born driver, who moved to New Zealand at a young age, won the first race of the 2003 Indy Racing League season in Homestead and is the youngest winner in major open-wheel racing history courtesy of his 2001 CART triumph at Nazareth.
Dixon and Kanaan collided in turn three on lap 178 of last Sunday's 200-lap race while battling for the lead. As Dixon moved underneath Kanaan's Andretti-Green Racing Dallara, his G Force-Toyota appeared to clip the left front of Kanaan's machine, sending them both into the outside wall. Kanaan suffered a fractured left arm in the crash and also faces a race against time to be fit for the Indy 500.
