MIPS: Chesson brothers are fun, free and fast.

The brother tandem of P.J. and James Chesson have taken the Indy Racing League Menards Infiniti Pro Series by storm this year. They have done it their way with fun, being free spirits and going fast.

The Chessons will be among the favourites to visit the Texas 100 victory lane on Saturday October 16th as the Menards Infiniti Pro Series closes out its third season of competition. If results from series races from July onwards are an accurate predictor, it would be wise to bet one of the Chesson siblings will be doing a dance in the winner's circle.

The Chessons are the Cinderella story of the IRL Menards Infiniti Pro Series season. The former World of Outlaws dirt track sprint car racers had never sat in a rear-engine racecar before this summer. P.J. turned a chance meeting with IRL IndyCar Series owners Morris and Kathryn Nunn into a full-time effort that kicked off in July.

By the end of August, P.J. owned a three-race Menards Infiniti Pro Series win streak in his first six efforts. The Nunns expanded the Pro Series effort to a pair of Dallara chassis with James filling the seat starting at the Chicagoland Speedway in September. Last weekend at the California Speedway, the younger Chesson scored his maiden MIPS victory in just his second series start.

During their years criss-crossing America with the nomadic World of Outlaws dirt track series, the Chessons were known as free spirits. They carry the attitude to their new effort.

"I think a lot of people find my personality refreshing," said P.J., a 2001 graduate of Lafayette College with a history degree. "I don't always say the right thing, but I've always not said the right thing. I don't say the wrong thing; I say what's on my mind. What most people are thinking, I'm quick to say it.

"Yeah, I'm still amazed about this season. It's unbelievable what has gone on. A lot of credit goes to Mo and Kathryn Nunn and everybody at Nunn Racing. They have put together a very good group of guys. They gave me a very good opportunity."

Brother James also appreciates what the Nunns have provided and their understanding nature.

"Maybe the Nunns aren't quite as free spirited as we are," said James. "I think that they are once you get to know them. Morris is a great guy, he's hilarious. We play golf with them, go out to dinner. They are pretty loose. But we're coming from the dirt tracks, that's a whole different ball game."
