Mexico City date moved.
The final round of this year's Champ Car World Series in Mexico City has been moved back one week so as not to conflict with All Souls Day, an important day of remembrance on the Mexican calendar.
The final round of this year's Champ Car World Series in Mexico City has been moved back one week so as not to conflict with All Souls Day, an important day of remembrance on the Mexican calendar.
The championship will now visit the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on the weekend of November 10th-12th, for the 15th and final round of the 2006 season.
"We will always do whatever we can to help our promoters, and if moving the race to a more accommodating date helps the event and helps our loyal Mexican fans, we are happy to do it," said Champ Car President and CEO Steve Johnson.
"Our promoter researched this issue thoroughly with fans and sponsors and came back to us with the recommendation. Given it is our season finale, we felt enough time remained to make the change for this year yet in order to help our promoter" said Executive Vice-President of Development, Planning and Governmental Affairs Joe Chrnelich. "Most importantly we believe this is the best option for our fans and partners in Mexico City."
This year will mark the fifth anniversary of the Champ Cars running in Mexico City, in what has become one of the highest-attended racing events anywhere in the world. In 2003, the Mexico City set an all-time Champ Car record for three-day attendance, drawing 402,413 fans including more than 221,000 on race day.
The event has averaged nearly 350,000 per event since its inception in 2002.
