Enge gets Cheever ride at Motegi.
Tomas Enge will drive the #51 Cheever Racing Dallara-Honda in the Indy Japan 300 at Twin Ring Motegi on 22 April, standing in for absent team boss Eddie Cheever, who is otherwise engaged that weekend.
Cheever is due to compete with his Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series team at Virginia International Raceway next weekend, interrupting his preparations for the Indianapolis 500. The former 500 winner will return to the #51 seat when practice begins for the 90th running of the blue riband event, but has tabbed Enge to keep the entry alive in Japan.

The 29-year old Czech raced with Panther Racing in last year's IRL, and has kept his hand in over the winter by representing his homeland in the A1 Grand Prix series, winning the final race in China two weeks ago, Although he has yet to taste similar success in the IRL, Enge can boast one top five and four top ten finishes with Panther last season.
Although the Motegi ride is a one-off for the moment, Enge's manager Antonin Charouz has hinted that the driver may yet appear at Indianapolis, and races beyond the May classic. Enge's signing ends speculation that former Cheever driver Patrick Carpentier would race in Japan.
