PDM Racing's Brad Brewer has been awarded with the Clint Brawner Award, an honour designed exclusively for chief mechanics who display unrivalled dedication during the Indianapolis 500.

Brewer is the chief mechanic to PDM Racing, the team having entered a single car for Thiago Medeiros for this year's legendary race. However, the Brazilian crashed their only car in practice just two days before qualifying.

Nonetheless, under the rallying cry of Brewer, the team were able to burn the midnight oil and borrow parts from other teams to get Medeiros back on track for qualifying, where he duly rewarded them for their efforts by scraping onto the grid in 33rd and last place.

It was not the first time that the team had to work non-stop after PDM was only given the green light to compete at Indianapolis just two days before the first day of practice and the rookie orientation.

Following Medeiros' crash, several teams were charitable in offering several parts for the car, including Fernandez Racing which offered a tub. Brewer then received the all-important call from team owner Paul Diatlovich.

"Paul called and asked if I was ready for a challenge," Brewer said. "We didn't get the tub until 6 o'clock Friday (the eve of pole qualifying). We worked until 2 a.m. that night and until 3 a.m. Saturday night to get it all together. I have no idea how we did it, but everybody pitched in to get it done. And we could not have done it without the help of everyone in this garage area."

The Brawner foundation and Firestone Racing recognise the incredible effort put forth by the PDM crew under the leadership of Brewer.

"Firestone commends Brad on the dedication and perseverance necessary to keep the crew focused on the task of getting Thiago's car into the race," said Page Mader, general manager, race tyre development at Firestone Racing. "Brad joins a long list of great mechanics to win the Brawner award and is a most deserving addition to this prestigious club."
