Legge in the pink for Road America.

Pink Champ Cars have been few and far between in what is a male-dominated arena, but that is set to change this weekend, as Katherine Legge's #20 Bell Micro Lola-Cosworth will be transformed in support of Ford Motor Company's 'Warriors in Pink' programme.

Pink Champ Cars have been few and far between in what is a male-dominated arena, but that is set to change this weekend, as Katherine Legge's #20 Bell Micro Lola-Cosworth will be transformed in support of Ford Motor Company's 'Warriors in Pink' programme.

The initiative is a part of Ford's effort to eradicate breast cancer through its commitment to the Susan G Komen 'Race for the Cure' series, to which the automotive company has already dedicated $87 million in donations and 'in-kind' gifts over twelve years. Through the Blue Oval's connection to the Champ Car World Series, Legge's PKV Racing team will do its bit to raise awareness of the campaign by repainting her entry, while Legge herself will don a special 'Warriors in Pink'-themed racesuit for the weekend.

"We are pleased to have Katherine Legge as a 'Warrior in Pink'," Ford Racing technology director Dan Davis said, "Ford has been a long-time supporter of The Komen Foundation and, with this special race car and awareness campaign at Road America, we contribute to educating our fans about breast cancer."

At the end of the weekend, Legge will donate her uniform, including her race shoes, gloves and specially-designed Troy Lee-painted helmet, to a charity auction, with proceeds going to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The racesuit was donated by Puma, which created the new look for Legge at no cost, while Champ Car partner Sherwin-Williams donated the paint for the new livery at no charge to the team - as well as handing over an additional $5000 on top of the cost.

"It is an honour for me to contribute to such a great cause, and I am happy to support Ford in any way I can," Legge said, "My team and I feel privileged to do anything we can to raise awareness for breast cancer research, and to further the effort of finding a cure. We just hope we can make a difference."

In addition to PKV's special paintscheme, each car in the Champ Car field will carry a Ford logo that incorporates a pink ribbon designed to increase awareness of the disease. Champ Car is also donating $10,000 to the 'Warriors in Pink' programme.
