FA: Shunt ends Skerlong season.

After a season that saw him take two wins and seven top-five finishes - including a maiden win - Carl Skerlong has seen his Atlantic Series campaign come to an early end following a high-speed accident at Road Atlanta.

The second-year driver was on top of the times at the wheel of the #14 King Taco car when he went off at turn one during Tuesday testing and suffered concussion - which in turn prevents him from taking part in the race.

Having admitted he felt confident of fighting for a second win of the year, Skerlong was left understandably disappointed but paid tribute to his PCM-run team for its work during the campaign.

"The car was good," he said. "Our lap times were improving each lap and we were quickest until I lost it in turn one. We rolled off with a quick car; I think we had a car that could win the race.

"I was so excited to fight for a top-three finish in the Championship this weekend. I am quite sore from the accident but not being able to race is much more painful! I want to thank King Taco for their continued support, also my engineer Burke Harrison for giving me fast cars all season and thanks to Shane, Tyler and the entire PCM/USRT crew, they are terrific and it has been a good season."

Skerlong will remain at Road Atlanta throughout the weekend working with his team-mate Frankie Muniz as Muniz is fighting Daniel Morad for tenth position in the standings.
