Morgan wins entry for Le Mans 24 Hour race.

The Morgan Works Race Team, favourite underdog of the international motor racing scene, has secured a place in the 2004 Le Mans 24 Hour race in June.

The team has battled for a year against a lack of major sponsorship and bounced back from many serious setbacks - including a major crash at the Spa 24 Hours Race in Belgium last year. The Morgan Aero 8's successful run in the Sebring 12 Hour Race in Florida last week was seen as vindication of the faith many have shown in the team's destiny.

"This is a great day for everyone who has believed in us through the hard times. It proves that it really is possible to take on the wealthy Porsche and Ferrari teams and make our presence felt. Some of these teams have more money available for catering than we have for the whole project.

"I hope that sponsors big and small will now see the tremendous opportunity this project represents, and quickly come forward to be part of a true British adventure. There's no doubt that the eyes of the world are watching us - and not just motorsport fans. The Morgan Works story has captured the imaginations of people everywhere who want to believe that David can take on Goliath," commented team manager David Dowse.

Confirmation of the entry marks the start of a frantic period of preparation for the team, which must now be ready for the preliminary tests at Le Mans at the end of April.

"Every minute, and every pound, euro and dollar counts now. Spirit and sheer determination have brought us this far, but there's a very big mountain in front of us," Dowse concluded.
