Machitski gets taste of GT1.
Reigning British GT3 champion Leo Machitski made the step up to GT1 when he tested Barwell Motorsport's Aston Martin DBR9 at Guadix circuit in Spain in preparation for a possible step up in 2007.
The 24-year old won the British crown aboard a Barwell-run Aston Martin and is looking at moving up to the GT2 and GT1 classes this year. With Barwell having collected its ex-factory DBR9 from Aston Martin Racing recently, car and driver were put together at the new-look Guadix facility near Granada, where factory driver Darren Turner was on hand to give Machitski some pointers.

"We had a fantastic first test with the DBR9," commented Barwell's Chris Needell, "Leo did a brilliant job for his first run in a GT1 car, and the car ran like clockwork."
The Surrey-based team is currently speaking to drivers about programmes in either the FIA GT Championship or Le Mans Series in Europe, and Machitski is in the frame to continue his successful relationship with Barwell in a selected LMS GT1 programme. Barwell will continue its GT1 test programme at Snetterton next month.
