Carmichael claims Daytona.

Team Chevy Trucks/Kawasaki rider Ricky Carmichael (pictured) continued his dominance of the 2001 AMA Supercross series with a huge win in the 250 cc class at the Daytona International Speedway.

Carmichael, who took his maiden 250cc Supercross win at the unique outdoor circuit just one year ago, used all his Motocross skills on the notoriously rough track to finish ahead of Mike LaRocco.

'The Rock' claimed a hard fought second place on his Amsoil/Dr. Martens Honda, but needed all his strength, perseverance and guts as he continues to recover from his foot injury.

Team Honda/Universal Studio rider Ezra Lusk took the final place on the podium with his third place finish as he continues to regain his race pace.

Meanwhile, reigning Champion Jeremy McGrath's season continued its downward spiral as the Yamaha rider took his worst finish of the year in sixth. The once dominant McGrath now lies 26 points behind Carmichael in the championship standings after finishing behind Tim Ferry's four-stroke Yamaha.

Top Suzuki rider was once again Kevin Windham, albeit in eighth place, and directly behind McGraph.

In the 125cc class, Team Suzuki's Travis Pastrana took an equally impressive victory to move into joint second overall with Mike Brown - they are now just one point short of series leader Nate Ramsey.

The final podium place went to then hard charging veteran Tallon Vohland on a Kawasaki.

The nest round of the 2001 AMA Supercross championship takes place on March 17 at Minneapolis, Minnesota.
