UK Supercross continues at strength.

The UK Supercross National Championship went back to it's roots on Saturday night for the ever growing 2001 series. After rounds 1 and 2 in Belfast, 3 in Birmingham and 4 in Cardiff, Round 5 bought even more intense racing as the huge prize purse and the Ford pick up trucks are nearer the hands of the riders in the top ranking positions. The 3,000 loud crowd saw some great racing action and some great barges...bringing down a few riders along the way.

The 125 cc event was really exciting with a new man taking the podium - Tom Church (MJ Church Kawasaki) rode his best ride in the series so far. Tom was leading 2 laps from the end but crashed on the doubles, which enabled Stephen Sword (Husqvarna) to catch him up, they then rode side by side until the whoops when Stephen took a crash; that broke his nose, leaving Tom to take the lead to win the race.

Stephen is still leading the pack overall with 77 points, Glenn Philips is behind him with 68 points, after taking a 6th place this weekend, Tom Church is in 3rd place overall with 63 points. London is going to see some of the best racing of the series with these guys battling it out to win the cash and truck. It's anyone's title.

The 250cc racing was as exciting as the 125cc, Mark Hucklebridge ( MJ Church Kawasaki) and Warren Edwards (Yamaha) crashed at the first corner, after getting up they were both in the last 2 places. Mark Hucklebridge came through to the leading pack, Warren Edwards came through to sit in 4th place.

Mark then overtook Jason Higgs half way through the race and stayed there. Warren couldn't get passed Neil Prince or Jason Higgs and took 4th place. This didn't alter the positions in the series, Mark has 89 points with Jason Higgs on 77 points, Warren Edwards on 72 points and Neil Prince on 53.

The crowd got behind the local rider in the Red Bull Freestyle competition when Chris Brock jumped well and took the win. His no hander, no footers really have to be seen to be believed. Sean Vocuvik and Fraser Swanson took 2nd and 3rd places.

The youth rounds saw Lewis Gregory take his fourth win in the series, in the Youth 125, Tommy Wright took first place in the 85 Big Wheel and Chad Yarranton won the 85 Small Wheel and Bradley Smith in the 65 cc class. Even these guys are close in the standings and are all battling for that National Championship title.

So, it's off to the finals on January 12th where the title could belong to a handful of riders. With so many riders keen to take the National Championship title the battle is set for January 12th London Arena Docklands.
