Federici injury update.

The injuries that Team Yamaha Axo Chesterfield rider Claudio Federici sustained to his right leg at the opening round of the Italian Championship on February 9th this year are healing well, yet take longer than initially expected.

After the first medical assessment it was hoped that Federici would be able to participate at the opening round of the 2002 Motocross 250 world championship race held the coming weekend at Valkenswaard, in The Netherlands. Recently the team have however decided to withdraw Federici from this race to not take any risk of aggravating the injury.

Recently the team have however decided to withdraw Federici from this race to not take any risk of aggravating the injury.

After a first operation on the 19th of February to mend the outer lateral ligament of his right knee, Federici has received a second treatment on March 13th to speed up the healing process of a broken nerve, which controls the upward movement of the right foot. This second microsurgery has been performed successfully and should give Claudio full control of his right foot within the next weeks.

The team are expecting that Federici will be back on his Yamaha YZ250M machine within the next two to three weeks, targeting to participate in the second round of the championship held at Bellpuig, Spain on April 14th.
