Carmichael set to clinch AMA title on Sunday.

Ricky Carmichael can write yet another chapter in the journal of his remarkable run in the 2002 AMA Chevy Trucks US Motocross Championship at Spring Creek Motocross Park in Millville, Minnesota, this weekend, as victory would wrap up the 250cc title.

Ricky Carmichael can write yet another chapter in the journal of his remarkable run in the 2002 AMA Chevy Trucks US Motocross Championship at Spring Creek Motocross Park in Millville, Minnesota, this weekend, as victory would wrap up the 250cc title.

If Carmichael wins and Yamaha's Tim Ferry finishes any worse than second in either moto on Sunday, then RC will secure his third-straight AMA 250 championship. If he does wrap up the title, in round ten of the twelve-race series, it would be the earliest point in a season that a rider has won the 250 championship since 1994 when Mike
LaRocco wrapped up the series with two rounds remaining.

Carmichael is nearing completion of one of the most extraordinary seasons in the 30-year history of AMA Motocross. The 22-year old Florida native is undefeated in the
previous nine rounds coming into this weekend's race. Not only has Carmichael earned victory in every round, but he also has pulled off the unprecedented move of winning all 18 motos so far this season. This weekend, the reigning AMA Supercross champion has the opportunity to match the longest winning streak in AMA Motocross, set by Mark Barnett in the 125 class during the 1980 and 1981 season.

RC is no stranger to winning at Millville. He earned two victories at Spring Creek Motocross Park in the 125 ranks and another pair of wins since switching over to the 250 class in 2000. John Dowd will be the only other rider in the field Sunday to have won a 250 race at Millville.

Meanwhile, in the 125 ranks, James Stewart brings a five-race winning streak into Millville.Stewart has impressed all who have seen him in his rookie season with his riding skills on the factory Kawasaki.

The 16-year old Floridian is considered by most to be the fastest rookie rider ever in AMA Motocross. He's never visited Millville before, but that hasn't kept him from winning seven nationals so far this year, mostly at tracks he's never raced on. Stewart has stretched out a comfortable 84-point lead over Suzuki's Branden Jesseman with three rounds remaining in the championship. Australia's Chad Reed is third in the series, only ten points behind Jesseman.

There have been three winners in the 125 series this year, including Stewart, Reed, and Danny Smith. Regardless of who wins this weekend, however, there will be a new 125 class winner crowned at Millville since no one in the field has ever won a 125 race at the track.
