The 2006 Maxxis British Motocross championship will draw to a dramatic close this weekend at Hawkstone Park, when the MX2 crown will be decided in a thrilling 'winner takes all' season finale.

Molson Kawasaki's teenage sensation Tommy Searle will arrive at the final round with a slim four point lead over reigning champion Carl Nunn - whose factory KTM seat Searle will occupy next season.

But Nunn won the previous round to close the points gap on Searle heading to Hawkstone, while Yamaha's Billy Mackenzie - 22 points behind Nunn - also has an outside chance of lifting the crown should disaster strike the two title favourites.

In the MX1 category things are more clear cut with Belgian Ken de Dycker needing just three points to take his first ever British championship title. de Dycker put one hand on the championship trophy when he followed CAS Honda team-mate Josh Coppins home in both races last time out and the Kiwiis very much the man of the moment having dominated the domestic scene since he returned from an injury that has kept him trackside for most of the season.

James Noble sits in a safe second place in the series and is the only man who can mathematically stop de Dycker taking the crown, but behind him there is a three-way scrap for third in the championship. Irish favourite Gordon Crockard currently holds this spot, but will come under severe pressure from fellow Honda riders Mark Jones and the charging Coppins - who recently ended Stefan Everts' unbeaten 2006 grand prix run.
