The FIM has confirmed that the new Moto2 class, which will replace the 250cc World Championship, is to have a single engine supplier.
Moto2, which will feature 600cc four-stroke engines and a prototype chassis, was due to start in 2011, but the FIM announcement regarding the engine rule revealed that the machines will race from next season.
"For 2010
"The [Grand Prix] commission unanimously accepted the proposition of the MSMA to have a "One Make Engine Regulation" in the Moto2 class. The name of the manufacturer will be announced later," said the statement.
The original intention had been for Moto2 bikes to be powered by production-based engines from various manufacturers, which may have caused a clash with the World Supersport Championship.
