Moto2: Alex de Angelis returns for home round
Alex de Angelis will return to Moto2 action during his home round this weekend at Misano, after securing a ride with the JiR team.
After losing his Honda Gresini MotoGP seat at the end of last year, de Angelis signed for Team Scot in the new Moto2 class for 2010, but had a rough time with accidents and injuries - missing races and scoring points just twice in the first seven rounds.
His luck looked to change when he was offered the chance to return to MotoGP as a substitute for the injure Hiroshi Aoyama at Interwetten from Germany, but de Angelis had no experience of the 2010 RCV (with its Ohlins suspension) and never got fully comfortable before Aoyama returned at Indy.
de Angelis should has switched back to Scot and Moto2 for last weekend's Indy round, but the team has 'suspended' its racing activities due to financial problems.
The Sammarinese has been working hard to find an alterative ride and has now secured at least a temporary ride on the ex-Mattia Pasini bike, which has been used by Japanese Yusuke Teshima since Pasini split from the team earlier in the year.
JiR's MotoBI chassis has taken two podiums in the hands of Simone Corsi, who starts this weekend fifth in the Moto2 points.
"I'm happy we found an agreement with the JiR Team for this race in Misano, where I'm at home," said de Angelis. "Simone Corsi is doing well in the championship, and this makes me guess the machine is a good one.
"I'm happy also because I already know almost all the team, they are the same technicians with whom I ran in 2006/2007, when I made 20 podiums therefore I feel already at home.
"Obviously I'll need to know the machine and get some confidence, but I'll give all my best as we're not here to 'take part'."
Pasini will also return to grand prix action at Misano, riding for the Italtrans STR (Suter) team.
