Toni Elias has confirmed he has parted ways with the Mapfre Aspar Moto2 team after being unable to replicate the form that took him to the series' inaugural title in 2010.

The Spaniard won seven races for Gresini-Moriwaki on the way to the first-ever Moto2 World Championship title in 2010, but his subsequent return to the top flight with LCR Honda in 2011 proved unsuccessful as he struggled to mount anything more than an occasional mid-field challenge.

Returning to Moto2 for 2012 aboard the Aspar-Suter, Elias's fortunes didn't improve and a best of seventh place at Estoril remains his best finish of the year.

Currently 15th in the standings after nine races, Elias has duly opted to part ways with Aspar, but was full of praise for the team for its efforts this season.

"Today was my last race for the MAPFRE Aspar Team and I want to thank every member of the team. Above all, thanks to Jorge, because he has treated me fantastically and has shown what a great person he is.

"In the end we have made an amicable split. Our paths continue and I wish the MAPFRE Aspar Team all the best."
