Moto2: Marquez, Luthi test at Portimao
Although Moto2 is not present for this weekend's US MotoGP, title leader Marc Marquez and fellow race winner Thomas Luthi haven't yet headed for their holidays and have instead been testing for Suter at the Portimao circuit in Portugal.
Spaniard Marquez, who will move to MotoGP next season as a Repsol Honda rider, holds a 34-point lead over Pol Espargaro (Kalex) and Andrea Iannone (Speed Up). Luthi is a further six points behind.
Marquez's advantage is despite missing much of winter testing due to vision problems from his Sepang accident last October.
Marquez and Luthi were able to ride at Portimao, familiar to fans of WSBK and WSS, since it is not part of the grand prix calendar.
The Repsol rider completed 211 laps over three days, while Luthi is said to have been present only for the final day.
"The test went very well and we have gathered a lot of data, which is what this week was all about," said Marquez.
"The first day was more for me to get used to the track, which is unique in its elevation changes and bumps and complicates the set-up a bit.
"With that out of the way, we could try new things, as Suter have worked very hard on providing us with solutions. We should be happy, because we've drawn a few conclusions.
"Coming here was positive and this will help us to be more prepared for the second half of the season, try to go a little faster and, above all, feel more comfortable".
Marquez and Luthi will be back in action alongside their Moto2 rivals during the Indianapolis Grand Prix in mid-August.
