VR46 presents Moto2, Moto3 colours
The Sky Racing VR46 team has presented its 2020 Moto2 and Moto3 colours, during an unveiling at Valentino Rossi's Motor Ranch in Tavullia.
The team's seventh season in grand prix sees the arrival of two 'new' riders, with Marco Bezzecchi joining Luca Marini in Moto2 and Andrea Migno partnering Celestino Vietti in Moto3.
But while Bezzecchi has never worn official VR46 colours before, he has long been part of the Academy while Migno is returning to the squad he raced for from 2015-2017.
The quartet will be aiming to add to the team's tally of 18 victories and 47 podiums, plus the world title by Francesco Bagnaia in 2018.
Marini arguably offers the best chance of a 2020 world championship, Rossi's brother recovering from a difficult start to the new Triumph era to deliver a pair of late-season victories last year.
"This will be the third year in the Team for me, 2019 has brought many technical
changes, I have tried to manage them in the best way possible and to experience in all conditions," Marini said.
"The goal is to be immediately competitive, constant and fast. An ambitious project that will require everyone's commitment and for this reason I am happy to share the garage with Marco."
After fighting for the 2018 Moto3 world championship, Bezzecchi endured a nightmare season on a Tech3 KTM in Moto2 and is thus looking for a fresh start on the VR46 Kalex bikes.
"Joining the Sky Racing Team VR46 family is an important step for my career and my future," he said. "I am really happy. It is one of the reference Teams in the category, a working group of experience and great professionals, with a new bike waiting for me to be able to demonstrate my real potential."
With three podiums and sixth in the world championship during his rookie Moto3 season, Vietti should be in the hunt for victories in 2020.
"2019 has marked my true championship debut. At the beginning of the season we had set ourselves real but ambitious goals," he said. "Thanks to the commitment and determination of all crew, we have hit them and now... We will try to raise the bar higher and higher."
Migno - who has taken a scattering of podiums during six full Moto3 seasons, alongside the lone 2017 race win – is excited to be back in VR46 KTM colours.
"The first testing session and at the first race are very close to us and the atmosphere in the team is positively crazy," he said. "We have a lot to do from here to Qatar, but the feeling is good. I want to give my best and honour this beautiful opportunity."
Pablo Nieto remains as VR46 team manager for the sixth year supported by Luca Brivio as team coordinator and Roberto Locatelli as riding coach.
David Munoz has moved from the VR46 Moto2 team to be crew chief for Rossi in MotoGP this season, resulting in former data technician Sergio Martinez being promoted to crew chief for Bezzecchi while Jairo Carriles will support Marini.
In Moto3, Marco Urani is confirmed with Vietti while Danilo Angeli, former crew chief in Moto2 in 2017 and then data technician in Moto3, will guide Migno.
