Moto3: Shoulder surgery for Alex Marquez
Alex Marquez, younger brother of MotoGP champion Marc Marquez, has undergone shoulder surgery.
The Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider, who claimed one victory and fourth in the world championship during his rookie Moto3 season, had been suffering from a 'recurring dislocation' of the joint.
During the operation at the Hospital Universitario Quiron Dexeus in Barcelona, doctors "stabilised the shoulder by introducing a bone block and reconstructing the anterior shoulder ligaments."
Marquez, who team is switching from KTM to Honda machinery for 2014, will require three weeks of rest.
The decision to undergo surgery was made after Marquez noted problems in recent months. He had dislocated his shoulder at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Marquez will again ride alongside 2013 title contender Alex Rins.
