Moto3: Quartararo seals CEV crown to assure WC move
Fabio Quartararo will definitely make his Moto3 World Championship debut in 2015 aged just 15 years-old after wrapping up the CEV Repsol Moto3 Championship in Portimao with a round in hand.
The Frenchman is listed to compete with the leading Estrella Galicia team in the Moto3 World Championship next season, but could originally only be permitted to compete from the fourth round onwards once he had reached the series' minimum required age of 16.
However, a change of rule, coupled to the stipulation that he must win the FIM sanctioned CEV Repsol Moto3 Championship this season, gave him the opportunity to progress earlier-than-planned, the teenager duly completing his side of the bargain by sealing the title early in Portimao.
"I had a good start and was able to set a good pace immediately, which allowed me to build some advantage over the riders behind me. It was a tough race, as it was very windy. I'm very happy with this victory and also for being the FIM CEV Repsol 2014 Champion.
"We worked very well during the weekend and also did an excellent job the whole season. I'd like to dedicate the title to everyone that supported me this season, to the sponsors and to Honda, because they worked very hard to make it possible."
