Moto3: Jorge Navarro ruled out of Assen
Moto3 title contender Jorge Navarro will miss next weekend's Dutch TT following surgery for a broken leg.
The Estrella Galicia 0,0 Honda rider broke his left tibia and fibula while training on Saturday, less than a week after celebrating his debut grand prix victory in Catalunya.
Dr. Xavier Mir, who performed the operation, said: "Jorge Navarro sustained a fractured tibia and fibula in his left leg and had intramedullary nailing of the tibia along with proximal and distal milling blocks inserted.
"This type of intervention, which fixes the tibia with a nail instead of plates, was chosen as it should allow the rider to use his foot sooner and accelerate recovery. The patient will be released in 48 hours and can then begin recovery."
Although already 44-points behind Brad Binder, Navarro is currently the Red Bull KTM rider's nearest championship challenger.
Lorenzo Dalla Porta, current leader of the FIM CEV Repsol, has been named as replacing Navarro for the Dutch round.
Dalla Porta rode the second half of the 2015 Moto2 season and did an admirable job as a stand-in for the injured Philipp Oettl at Mugello last month, leading a lap before being forced to settle for 15th.
Navarro will now aim to return to action at the Sachsenring in Germany next month, the final event before the summer break.
