Fernandez beats McPhee to lead Qatar Moto3 warm-up

Raul Fernandez has used his final lap in warm-up to top the session ahead of the 2020 Moto3 opener in Qatar.
Long-time session leader John McPhee looked comfortable thanks to his 2m 05.99s but Fernandez regained the headlines having topped practice earlier this weekend at the Losail International Circuit.
With the Red Bull KTM rider leading the way a couple of tenths faster than his Petronas Sprinta Racing rival, Tony Arbolino slotted into third place for the Rivacold Snipers Team squad.
Dennis Foggia found some timely form ahead of the Qatar race with fourth place in warm-up for Leopard Racing to push Albert Arenas into fifth place, with the Aspar rider set to start this afternoon’s race from the front row.
With Gabriel Rodrigo slotting into sixth place for Kommerling Gresini, Ai Ogura remains in contention in seventh place for Honda Team Asia ahead of former team-mate Kaito Toba in eighth place for Red Bull KTM Ajo. Toba claimed victory in Qatar 12 months ago in the lightweight class.
Qatar test topper Filip Salac (Rivacold Snipers Team) and Stefano Nepa (Aspar) completed the top 10 in warm-up, while pole-sitter Tatsuki Suzuki could only manage 15th place in the 20-minute session for SIC58 Squadra Corse.
Moto3 shares centre stage with Moto2 at the Losail International Circuit this weekend with the MotoGP premier class event cancelled amid the coronavirus outbreak. The 2020 Moto3 opener in Qatar gets underway at 16:20 local time, followed by the Moto2 race at 18:00 local time.
